Before and After School Care

After School Care, like all of our programs, offer members a safe place to try new experiences including sports, games, activities, outdoor excursions, community field trips, arts and crafts, and specialty clubs like running, reading, baking, dance, sewing, all under the positive mentorship of our carefully selected staff team.  Snacks, activities and the opportunity for independent play are provided daily.

Breakfast - it’s the MOST important meal of the day! We are thrilled to announce that we will now be offering a FREE Breakfast Club in Morning Care. We are open every morning at 7:00am, and will be serving a variety of healthy foods to get our club members starting their day off right. Spaces are still available - contact us to register your child today.

Girls Group - Ages 8-12

Girls Group is a fun and empowering group for girls ONLY, ages 7-12. The girls gather once a week at the Millstream Club to try fun activities, meet new friends and develop life skills in a safe and welcoming environment. While this program is developed around the interests of the participants, typical activities include: baking, spa nights, yoga, active games, crafts, sewing, fun out-trips and so much more! Limited space is available so join today!

Times: Thursdays 6:00 - 8:00 pm, October - December, January - April
Fees: $25 / Semester

Boys Group - Ages 8-12

Join us on Thursday nights at the Millstream Club for an energetic and active evening for boys ONLY, ages 7-12. Boys Group participants get together once a week for active games, team building, and a chance to burn off some of that extra energy. Each night is programmed around the interests of the participants, however typical activities include: gym games, scavenger hunts, food challenges, The Amazing Race, exciting out-trips, and so much more! Limited space is available so join today!

Outdoor Adventure

The Outdoor Adventure program offers adventure programs and activities once a week throughout the West Shore. Trained adventure program staff will create a safe and healthy learning environment for participants to build on their existing strengths and challenge themselves a little further. Through experiential, adventure-based learning activities, the youth will develop greater self-awareness and self-confidence, and build healthy relationships with the environment and their peers. Activities include orienteering, canoeing, rock climbing, archery, hiking, community service, gardening, and more. Nutritious snacks and transportation are provided.

Thursdays, 3:10-5:30pm, Spencer Middle School

This program is generously funded by a Sears After School Enhancement grant

Rite of Me

This program is open to middle school girls (ages 10-14) in the West Shore. We focus on empowerment, self-esteem, self-expression and self-image through outdoor adventure programming. Hosted at our Outdoor Centre in Metchosin, activities include archery, rock climbing, the low ropes course, hiking, ‘The Amazing Race’, cooking, team building, crafts, and games. Under the mentorship of dedicated staff, emphasis is placed on self-reflection, goal setting, and building positive female relationships. Transportation and nutritious snacks are provided. 

Program Dates:  First session, January 25 - March 14, 2012, Second session, April 4 - May 30, 2012

Wednesdays, 3:10-5:30pm - rotating between Dunsmiur and Spencer Middle schools
Fees: $25 Membership Fee

Literacy and Numeracy Program

ReadingA, B, C’s and 1, 2, 3’s! We offer two FREE Literacy and Numeracy programs for children in Kindergarten - Grade 2, or Grade 3 - Grade 6. Through assessment and observation we discover each child’s comprehension and skill level and create a syllabus that is adequately engaging, challenging, and most importantly, fun! We take a 'strengths-based approach' to learning where each child receives a positive mentorship from our enthusiastic staff and a take home package to practice their skills. Small group sizes ensure more individual focus and attention.

Spring Break Camp

Registration for Spring Break begins on Monday February 13, 2012. Don’t miss out on this awesome Outdoor Adventure Camp! This is a non-licensed camp for active and adventurous kids. We will use the Boys and Girls Club Outdoor Centre for archery, rock climbing, hiking, low ropes course, outdoor games, baking, campfires and more. In the afternoons we’ll head out for swimming, bowling, skating, Play Zone, and other exciting opportunities in the West Shore.

There is a small yearly non-refundable membership fee required when registering your child with Boys & Girls Club Services. The membership fees are: $25.00 per child or $45.00 per family. Subsidy applications are available at the Club.
