Adventure Based Learning

PROGRAM
NAME:
Adventure Based Learning

PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION:
As a guiding principle, we deliver high quality adventure based learning experiences that allow each participant to move forward in ways that improve the quality of their lives. From learning new physical skills to gaining insight into personal strengths, participants will be involved in activities that will challenge, educate, reward and replenish them physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Adventure Based Learning (ABL) incorporates the following principles: the participant is actively engaged in the process, groups or small communities are created, unfamiliar activities or environments are presented, an imposed level of stress is applied to the group, and the activities are reflected upon and have some future relevance to the participants. These circumstances impel individuals into a state of readiness to learn and focus their attention on the task at hand.

ABL offers learning experiences in unique physical and social environments allowing individuals to experiment with new skills, behaviours and group roles in a safe, encouraging environment. Processing the experience through facilitated debriefing allows the experience to be internalized. Participants can then draw real life relevance from their learning.

INFORMATION:

.

ABL can deliver activities ranging from a half-day of activities to multi-week expeditions. The level of qualified wilderness and experiential educators allows us to customize services to be truly client-centred. We utilize our 100-acres base camp near Victoria for most activities. Forest, trails, small lakes, a challenge course, climbing wall, canoes, and a wide range of activities are available to custom design the curriculum to meet client needs.

The staff’s unique combination of training, education and experiences allow them to work comfortably with a variety of participants. With sound outdoors skills, knowledge of curriculum development and delivery, risk management, awareness of different learning styles, group dynamics, and having substantial experience in leading wilderness expeditions, ABL instructors provide meaningful adventure based learning opportunities
