For nearly 50 years Boys & Girls Club Services of Greater Victoria have been recognizing trends, adapting to change, exploring new service models and methods, and meeting emerging community needs. But above all we have understood that the healthy development of children and youth depends upon a community that is committed to caring for those children at as young an age as possible. We are a big part of that community and will continue to not only provide the programs that kids need but will also investigate every opportunity to collaborate with others in the community to foster the healthy development of children and youth.
We do not fear change but view it as a challenge and an opportunity. We seek those who share that view and who are not willing to accept the status quo. We seek those who are willing to blaze the trail and set an example to other donors and funders – those who believe in us, our programs, and our ability to deliver them effectively, efficiently and responsibly.
There are so many ways to support the Foundation. While it is obvious that we welcome monetary gifts of any size, we also welcome people who are willing to work with us to achieve our goals. As we continue our planning we are establishing a Financial Development Committee and are looking for volunteers who can provide help in one or more of the following areas:
- Recruitment and training of volunteers
- Identify potential donors
- Research prospective donors
- Prepare information about Boys & Girls Club Services of Greater Victoria
- Donor stewardship
- Visit potential donors and ask for a donation
- Give a legacy gift
Funding Opportunities
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Victoria Foundation is a non-profit organization registered with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, charitable registration #89051 1975 RR0001 and donations to the Foundation can be directed to either Boys & Girls Club Services of Greater Victoria or left with the Foundation. Tax receipts are issued for all gifts according to the regulations established by Canada Customs and Revenue Agency.
Cash donations of any size are always welcome and can be directed to a specific program of your choice or left to us to determine the greatest need. Gifts can be made on a one-time basis or in the form of a pledge over several years. We endeavour to provide appropriate public recognition if so desired, however, we respect the rights of our supporters with regard to anonymity.
Operating Fund
We have an on-going need for operating funds, which can be directed to a program of your interest or left undesignated.
Endowment Fund
Monies directed to our endowment fund remain intact with only the interest earned being expended. There are a number of options to explore for individuals or businesses wishing to establish a named fund.
Capital Funds
Capital funds are needed for a variety of purposes - from ongoing building maintenance to the purchase of vehicles or major equipment or to the expansion or establishment of new buildings.
Gifts-in-Kind
New or good used gifts-in-kind are always welcome and tax receipts are issued for the full amount of the fair market value.
Legacy Gifts
Leaving a bequest to the Boys & Girls Club Services of Victoria is simple and involves no immediate cost to you. You can make a gift of a specific sum of money, personal property, real estate, a gift of a percentage, or all, of the residue of your estate.
Gifts of Securities
The federal budget of May 2006 eliminated capital gains on gifts of publicly traded securities to public charities. Publicly traded securities are all securities listed on Canadian and major international exchanges. This includes stocks, trust units, exhange-traded funds, warrants, etc., as well as mutual fund units and bonds. The donation must be an "in kind" transfer of the security itself, not the cash proceeds of the sale of the security. The transfer is best made electronically from the donor's investment account to the charity's custody or brokerage account.
Workshop/Event Sponsorships
These are areas where local businesses would have the opportunity to demonstrate their support for their community by sponsoring workshops and other events. Depending on the level of support, the workshop or event could carry the donor's company name and logo and would be included all advertisements.

In Funding Opportunities and Legacy Gifts we have provided examples of the various ways that you can help The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Victoria Foundation. This is not, by any means, an exhaustive list. An individual is just that - an individual. Each of us has a vision on how they wish to help their community. We hope that you will contact us to determine if there is a way that we can help you realize your vision while you help us realize ours! |
