Volunteers
Thank you for considering volunteering with Boys & Girls Club Services
of Greater Victoria. You will find many opportunities to support, guide
and encourage the healthy growth and development of children, youth and
their families. We are committed to providing a rewarding experience,
which will offer our volunteers opportunities for new friendships, challenge,
support and training. Work experience and practicum placements are also
available.
We look forward to discussing with you your experience, skills, interests,
and expectations so that your volunteer experience will be a successful
one. Together we can make a difference in the youth of our community!
Volunteer Checklist:
If you should decide to volunteer with Boys & Girls Club Services it
will be necessary for you to:
- Review volunteer positions – to see what area/club you would
like to volunteer with.
- Complete the volunteer
application form and return it to Boys & Girls Club Services
of Greater Victoria.
- At our liscensed clubs (Harbourside, Millstream, Central Saanich) a doctor's note is required.
- Participate in an interview/orientation-you will be contacted upon
receipt of the application form.
- Complete a criminal record/reference check-details of this procedure
will be shared with you at the interview.

Rights:
- A volunteer has the following rights:
- To be treated with respect
- To be treated as a team member
- To be given a suitable placement
- To be given information about the organization, its goals, and philosophy
- To receive training for the job
- To receive continuing education and workshop opportunities for the
job
- To have regular evaluation of their volunteer performance
- To be given sound advice and directions
- To be given promotion and a variety of experiences as appropriate
- To be recognized for your contribution
Responsibilities
- To be an asset builder
- To Sign in/out of the Volunteer Log Book
- To treat all others in the club with respect
- To believe in the value of the job to be done
- To be loyal to the organization
- To maintain the standards, dignity and integrity of the club in public
- To carry out duties to the best of your ability
- To accept the guidance and decisions of the supervisor
- To be willing to learn and participate in orientation, training programs,
meetings and continue to learn the job
- To be an active team member
- To use feedback as an opportunity for learning
- To let your supervisor know in good time if you are unable to come
in or have to resign
- To respect confidentiality of information
- To ask help if you need it
- To report any knowledge of suspected child abuse or neglect to your
supervisor
