| We welcome
volunteers!
Boys & Girls Club Services of Greater Victoria was founded by caring citizens back in 1960. These original “volunteers” had a vision of community supporting and mentoring youth. Although our services have expanded considerably in the last four decades, that vision remains at the heart of what we do, and volunteers have remained an integral part of who we are.
Our volunteer opportunities are designed to create an experience that is rewarding to the volunteer, to the organization and most importantly, to our members. Volunteer involvement helps ensure the delivery of effective and supportive programs, but more than that, volunteers are part of our identity as a community focused organization. We are committed to providing a positive experience that offers our volunteers opportunities for new friendships, challenge,
support and training. Work experience and practicum placements may also be
available.
Benefits of volunteering:
- Gain skills and experience
- Expand your personal and professional network
- Experience personal growth, learning and rewards
- Be part of positive change in your community
- Have fun doing something different!
Who can volunteer?
Our volunteers are from all walks of life. We recognize that everyone has something unique to offer and different strengths to share. If you share our vision and want to also share your time and energy with us, we are excited to hear from you.
Unless someone like you cares an awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not. - Dr. Suess
Where do volunteers fit in?
Direct service to youth and families
At Boys & Girls Clubs there are many opportunities to support, guide and encourage the healthy growth and development of children, youth and their families. Volunteers can help out at after-school or evening programs at one of our Community Clubs. Direct service opportunities in other programs, including work experience or practicum placements, may also be available.
Specialized Project Delivery
We are always looking for volunteers with a specific skill or talent they could share with some of our participants to enhance one of our existing programs. Ideas are: arts & crafts, music, photography, new media, specialized sports, culture, baking, pottery and anything else you can think of!
Special Events and Fundraising
Special events such as community BBQs, golf tournaments, our Adventure Camp Carnival and our annual Monopoly Madness tournament have two important functions – to raise funds to support our programs and to bring our message to the community. We need lots of extra help from volunteers to do all sorts of things for these events. If you are looking for more occasional opportunities, this is a way you can get involved and have a lot of fun at the same time.
Board Members and Advisory Committees
Experienced, qualified and professional individuals provide leadership and specialized services to the agency. Board members ensure the agency’s activities remain focused on our mission, play a leading role in fundraising activities and promote the organization in the community.
Other support roles and Employee Sponsored volunteering
A lot goes on behind the scenes and there are always jobs and projects which could benefit from your help. For example, you could help out in our admin office or be part of an environmental task force out at camp. Organizations or businesses could help with a specific project, like re-painting a club facility. Contact us to talk about your ideas.
