Youth United Anti Bullying Film Festival 2012

February 29, 2012 - Winners Announcement

Film Fest Poster Graphic

Victoria Community Centre Network’s first Youth United Anti-Bullying Film Festival gave a voice to young people in our community who are willing to take a stand against something they know isn’t right.

Youth in Victoria were invited to make a 30 second PSA that creatively conveys an anti-bullying message. Over 20 videos were submitted, each one providing a unique perspective on bullying and a call for bullying to stop. All videos are available on our Youtube channel  - http://www.youtube.com/user/bgcvic

All entries were screened at a packed event hosted at Harbourside Boys & Girls Club and attended by over 130 children, teens and adults. A panel of judges consisting of City Councillor Shellie Gudgeon, CTV’s Andrew Johnson, C-Fax 1070’s Liz McArthur, Kool FM’s Jillian Van Der Geest, and Island Parent’s Paul Abra.

The winning PSA will be aired on CTV2 on Anti-Bullying Day (February 29, 2012). There will also be great prizes for the second and third place films.

The judges' marks are in and have been counted! Here are the top three entries:

1st place - The Shoreline Social Club - "Bullying Stops Here!"

2nd place - Maila Moon - "When will bullying stop?"

3rd place - Peter Kachan - "The effects of cyber-bullying"

Videos were assessed based on the following Criteria:

  • Ability to convey an anti-bullying message
  • Creativity/Originality
  • Production Quality
  • Overall Best Film

A huge thank you is due to our judges, our sponsors (CTV2, C-Fax/Kool FM, Little Ceasars and Odeon Cineplex), event hosts (Harbourside Boys & Girls Club), the event organizers (Victoria's Community Centre Network), and of course to to all the participating youth!

Bullying is a serious issue in our schools, work places and other organizations. For more information about Pink Shirt Day, click here.
