Youth Justice Programs

These programs reinforce the need for youth to take responsibility for his/her action, and view this as one factor in rehabilitation of youth. The programs are highly involved with reintegrating youth into the community and can act as a conduit between youth and their return to their family unit. Finally, these youth justice programs are supportive of the legislation that states 'that the purpose of youth sentences is to hold young people accountable through interventions that are just, provide meaningful consequences and promote rehabilitation and reintegration.'

Coastline Challenges

Coastline Challenges is an approved Provincial Youth Justice Program that offers an intensive outdoor program for male and female youth on probation aged 13 to 18. The camp is a wilderness-based 26-day program, which is physically demanding and operates year-round in all types of weather. The intent is to use the outdoors as a means to learn and practice cooperation, communication and anger management skills, and to develop self-esteem and character along the way. Courses include hiking, canoeing, and work projects. Participants build their own shelters and cook over open fires. Coastline Challenges Camp ventures to spectacular and often remote locations on and around Vancouver Island.

Connections

Connections is a community-based, court ordered monitoring service for males and females ages 12 to 18, which provides an effective alternative to the incarceration of youth. Youth must be willing to follow a court order, attend school or a day program, and are deemed a "manageable risk" to the community. Youth in Connections may be housed in one of our Care Homes.
Intake & Referral Process: Referrals can be made by self-referral, family or parent/caregiver, or any professional such as a Youth Worker, Crown, Defence Lawyer, Judge, etc. However all intakes eventually have to be court ordered once Connections makes the decision to accept a youth.
