| PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: |
Circle of Friends is a
peer support program for children ages 6 – 9 years old who are
coping with grief and loss. Loss can be experienced in many different
ways: death of a loved one, parental separation or divorce, moving
to a new city or school, change in health, loss of a friendship, death
of a pet, adoption, foster care, concerns at school, or witnessing
violence. Circle of Friends offers a safe place for children to talk
about their feeling and to move through the pain of loss. |

|
| PROGRAM INFORMATION: |
The program is designed to provide children
with a greater capacity for managing their feelings and challenging
life events. It focuses on encouraging the development of healthy
coping skills. Coping with grief and loss is difficult at any age;
however, it is especially important for children to receive support
during these painful life transitions. Through the safety and support
of the group, children will have an opportunity to identify and address
their feelings. A variety of games, crafts, and activities are specifically
designed to encourage dialogue. By sharing their feelings together,
children learn that they are not alone in their grief.
Each group is lead by a minimum of two adults who will ensure that
children feel safe and supported and who will provide guidance and
age appropriate activities designed to encourage questions and stimulate
conversation. There will be ongoing support provided on an informal
basis to participants, caregivers, and all caregivers are welcome
to join our parent support group. |
