  Youth Supportive Recovery Care Homes

PROGRAM NAME:

Youth Supportive Recovery Care Homes

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Youth Supportive Recovery Care Homes are designed to provide a safe, supportive home for youth wanting to deal with their drug and alcohol issues. In recognition that many youth dealing with drug and alcohol issues are also dealing with other issues, including mental health challenges, we are a program that is welcoming to youth with co-occurring disorders. Each Care Home has a Youth Support Worker available to provide support for both the care home and the youth. The youth and the Youth Support Worker create a service plan that outlines the youth’s identified goals and transition plan. The Youth Support Worker will be available to meet with the youth on a regular basis and will liase with involved community partners. Youth accepted into the program are between the ages of 13 and 18, male, female, or transgender, and have voluntarily asked to be in this program. Program length is usually 10 to 12 weeks.

PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY:
  • Young people have the right to develop their potential within a safe and supportive environment.
  • Responsive intervention encourages youth to accept responsibility for their actions.
  • Youth provided with the opportunity for positive experiences and successes will become motivated towards the same.
  • Through strong and appropriate role models, youth will develop relationships built on mutual respect and integrity.
  • A supportive and consistent atmosphere will allow youth to develop positive self-esteem.
  • Living within a healthy and safe environment will increase the opportunity for youth to achieve their identified goals.
  • Youth will benefit from a holistic, integrated approach where any presenting issues are considered significantly important.

INTAKE & REFERRAL PROCESS:
  • Referrals are made to the Care Home Program’s Intake Coordinator by the individual’s Alcohol and Drug Counsellor. An interview with the youth is part of the assessment process. Information is shared between the Alcohol and Drug Counsellor and the Intake Coordinator in order to assure the most appropriate placement. The referring Alcohol and Drug Counsellor is expected to remain active in the youth’s case management and provide ongoing drug and alcohol counselling.
