PROGRAM NAME: Turning Point

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Turning Point is a program that offers youth between the ages of 12 to 19, male, female or transgendered, who are dealing with issues of sexual exploitation a safe and supportive environment within a Care Home.

PROGRAM INFORMATION: The Turning Point Support Worker, Care Families and the youth work together to attain the goals needed to re-examine the present situation and move toward a healthy lifestyle.

Turning Point operates with a fundamental belief in the positive intent of young people. The focus is on their ability to grow towards a healthy lifestyle, through strong and appropriate role models, they will develop relationships built on mutual respect and integrity. Youth provided with the opportunity for positive experiences and successes will become motivated towards the same, and a supportive and consistent atmosphere will allow youth to develop positive self-esteem.

INTAKE & REFERRAL PROCESS:

Referrals are made to the Care Home Program Intake Coordinator. Referrals are invited from any concerned individuals. Program placement into Turning Point involves a personal interview with the youth. Placement assessment is based upon the youth’s ability to live in a residential setting, the youth’s ability to follow the guidelines of the Care Home, and the match of the behavioural characteristics of the youth and the Care Family.
