PROGRAM NAME: Turnabout
 
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Turnabout is a community based care home program for male, female, and transgender youth, aged 12 to 18, on probation and who are experiencing difficulties with their family or Ministry placement. While in the program youth work toward increasing their life skills and where appropriate bridging the gap between them and their families. A Youth Support Worker is available at all times to support the philosophy of integrated case management and welcomes youth with co-occurring disorders.

 
PROGRAM INFORMATION:

The Turnabout Program is designed to provide short-term (3 to 8 month) support and supervision within a Care Home model for youth sentenced through the court system. The Turnabout Support Worker works directly with the youth, their identified family, and the Care Home family. The youth and Turnabout Support Worker create a service plan that outlines the youth’s identified goals and transition plan. The Turnabout Support Worker will be available to meet with the youth on a regular basis and will liase with involved community partners.

  • Young people have the right to develop their potential within a safe and supportive environment.
  • Responsive intervention encourages youth to accept responsibility for their actions.
  • Youth provided with the opportunity for positive experiences and successes will become motivated towards the same.
  • Through strong and appropriate role models, youth will develop relationships built on mutual respect and integrity.
  • A supportive and consistent atmosphere will allow youth to develop positive self-esteem.
  • Living within a healthy and safe environment will increase the opportunity for youth to achieve their identified goals.
  • Youth will benefit from a holistic, integrated approach where any presenting issues are considered significant importance.
   
INTAKE & REFERRAL PROCESS:

Referrals are made to the Intake Coordinator by a Youth Probation Officer. Placement assessment is based upon the youth’s ability to live in a supportive family setting, nature of offense, willingness to follow program guidelines, and compatibility of the youth and available care home family..
